General Question about upgrading Laserfiche to 11

Our Laserfiche Rio System is on version 10.4

We are looking to upgrade everything to version 11

I've never been through an upgrade like this before, so I'm just curious how it works in general. We have several applications spread across multiple dedicated servers (Forms, Workflow, Import Agent, Connector, etc... full list on bottom)

Do all of these have to be upgraded at the same time to get the whole system to 11? Or can we upgrade each individual application to 11 over time and still have the whole system work despite some apps being 11 and some still being 10.4? 

Does anyone know of any whitepapers that show instructions on how to upgrade an on-prem system like this?

Hi Addison,

 

As a general rule of thumb, start with LFDS, then LF Server and test everything. After that it doesn't really matter what order you do things.

Hi Addison,

 

It's best to do the upgrade in pieces so you can give yourself enough time to test each application separately so every piece is working properly.

I did my upgrade over 2 weeks.

 

1. LFDS

2. Full-Text Search Server

3. Workflow Server

4. Forms Server

5. Quickfields

6. Weblink

Unless there is a fix you need, if everything is stable, don't do it. I have been cleaning up issues ever since I moved from 10.4 to 11. If you want the new features in Forms, just upgrade Forms. Leave everything else at 10.4. That's my opinion. My system worked great at 10.4. Rio with over 300 users.

We are looking to do a upgrade of servers and applications we on 10.4 as well.

Can you give me more specifics of the issues that you are dealing?

we are very large system 6 WF servers 6 Forms server and 5 LF servers with 15k users.

The biggest headache was updating Web Client. It broke our auto log-in. That made all my users have to sign in and I started getting tons of complaints. I also started getting weird errors on my LF server. Sometimes when I RDP to my LF server, a weird message pops up and I close it and move on. I also started getting a weird message on my QF box too. It's the BPProcess something error.  The same thing, I close the message and move on. The last 2 are just inconvenient. The biggest headache was auto login. My recommendation is to watch that first. If users have to sign in, everyone is unhappy. 

Oh and right now, my Web client users can't search "created by users". The new web client resolves users' names to my domain control name but the metadata on documents is my domain's alias so they are not matching and you have to do a custom quick search. https://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/197574/Web-Client-Search-By-User-Is-Inaccurate#197787

Has Laserfiche provided documentation on how to migrate to version 11 or on mistakes to avoid in that migration?
