Question

Rio License Server Migration

asked on July 22, 2015 Show version history

Hi,

We want to  move RIO License Server from say Server A to Server B.

Can you please help us with below

1) Steps that need to be taken care pre and post migration

2) How long will it take to update the new license server Hardware footprint on your systems, do we need to place a prior request with you along with the Server B hardware footprint ID.

3) Do we have an option to roll back instantly if something goes wrong with out reaching Laserfiche support team.

Thanks,

Srikanth

1) If you are talking about License Manager 8.3 or earlier,  this post on License Manager migration is a good place to start.

2) After a successful deactivation (which occurs automatically upon detach if you activated directly from the License Manager machine), you should be able to reactivate immediately. Deactivation should be very quick (a minute or less, I think).

3) To "roll back" the migration, you would need to reverse the steps: deactivate on the new machine, reattach the licensing database to the old machine, and reactivate on that machine. This should not require contacting Laserfiche support.

If you are using Directory Server 9.2+, please let me know so that I can update my response to reflect that.

Do the licenses for Laserfiche Server and other applications need to be re-generated after migrating the Rio License Server?

You can avoid the need to regenerate the license if you use DNS aliasing. See this recent post and see Miruna's answer to a previous question on the same topic for more information.

If you do not use DNS aliasing, you will need to regenerate licenses for any Laserfiche Server instances. Some other applications may not need their licenses regenerated.
