Question

Moving License Manager

asked on March 16, 2015

Hi All,

If I deactivate and move License Manager from one server to the other, will I need to re-generate all the Licenses for the existing servers? I'm guessing I will as they won't know where to find License Manager anymore?

Steps will be....

To detach your licensing database

  1. Open the Laserfiche License Manager Administration Console.
  2. Expand the Laserfiche License Manager node, and select your License Server.
  3. Select your licensing database.
  4. Right-click, or open the Action menu, and select Detach Licensing Database.
  5. Confirm that you want to detach the database.  The database will be detached in place, and the .db file will remain in its current location.

To unregister your license server

  1. Open the Laserfiche License Manager Administration Console.
  2. Expand the Laserfiche License Manager node, and select your License Server.
  3. Right-click, or open the Action menu, and select Unregister License Server.
  4. Confirm that you want to unregister your server.

Install on new server, activate and restore the licensing database. (Also attached detailed instructions).

Thanks!

The License Manager server name is written to the application licenses so they know where to call back and validate the license. If you DNS alias the new LM server to the old one, that call will still work so you wouldn't have to regenerate all licenses.

Thanks Miruna,

I thought that was the case but just wanted to confirm.

I think in this instance I will just re-generate the licenses for the servers as they don't have that many servers (9 all together) and a few other options dotted about.

Cheers!smiley
