Question

SDK Licensing

asked on June 3, 2015

We currently use Import Agent to post scanned documents from a file server into Laserfiche Repository.

If we provide users a tool which in turn uses Laserfiche SDK, instead of Import Agent, to create documents in Laserfiche Repository, will it violate Licensing?

The SDK does not provide any capability to circumvent the licensing requirements for authenticating into and accessing a repository.  Your SDK application/integration will still require you to maintain the appropriate number of user licenses to allow it and the other users to interact with a Laserfiche repository.

The biggest issue is that you can't generate pages easily using the SDK as it doesn't support this.

This thread has some information about this: https://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/68958/how-to-generate-LF-pages-using-SDK-And-Workflow--how-to-get-page-count

If you already have import agent service running and you are looking at this as a way to add more throughput, I'd suggest letting Import Agent just import the pages and generate the images then have DCC actually OCR the images afterwords. The Import Agent service can generate pages very very quickly, it's the OCR piece that slows things down.
