Question

Question

remove the add or remove field button

asked on May 22, 2015

so I only found two posts pertaining to this topic:

https://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/51285/AddRemove-Fields-and-Sharing-Saved-Searches

&

https://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/74403/Discussion-Should-Laserfiche-add-the-ability-to-hide-the-addremove-fields-button

I don't understand how security prevents people from even accessing the button. some accounts I have like the button but others don't want their users to be able to click it at all. Any suggestion on how to do this? My accounts would prefer a cosmetic removal if were able to but I cant find anything about that.

It's not currently possible to remove it without some specific customization on the individual client machines. Can you provide more info on why they don't want the button? Do they just not like seeing it?

Yeah, its a cosmetic thing. the IT staff of one of my clients is requesting how to gray it out or remove it all together. Ive shown them the template field security but they would rather remove the button. Since they cant ill just let them know.

I've seen this topic requested on Answers before but could I put +1 tally on the board for this feature request?

Thanks.

Sure, we've been looking into ways for admins to customize their users client environments more. It's just in the exploratory stage, but add/removed fields is one that comes up often enough to consider including here.

@████████ ... has this been addressed yet? Similarly, our client would like to have that "Add / Remove Fields" option removed from certain user accounts. Is there an easy way to hide it altogether for a particular user? If not, is an option for that in the works?

Anything new on this??  Department head wants it gone!  End users are adding fields that are interfering with their back end processes...  Any new developments

Hi Sue,

I don't have specific updates at this point. This obviously didn't make it into the initial implementation of settings lockdown, but I know it comes up a lot so I'm going to see if I can bump up the priority for this request. The main question though is which applications you need this hidden in. It should be doable in the Windows and Web Client main interfaces as they support the settings lockdown feature, but other modules such as Laserfiche Scanning or Snapshot also display this option and they don't support this functionality. Would it be sufficient to hide it in only the main Windows and Web Client interfaces, or is that not going to address the concern? I will say it's a lot more likely to happen in a sooner timeframe if it can cover just those areas.

Thanks for the update Justin!  Window and Web Client would be a great start....  That said, inconsistencies to end users causes confusion.  So if they are seeing one place and not others, they think they did something wrong :)  But yes, I think for a quick fix the Windows and Web Client is a great start but should be on the list for the others in the near future.  The inconsistencies can be managed through training :)

This is a Feature Request for the windows client that i would also like, as a customer has strict fields that they require per template and do not want users to be adding other fields which are not specific to the document Data.
