Question

word table merge - not working

asked on March 10 Show version history

All,

I am trying to set up a table merge in the update word document activity and for some reason even though my query for the table merge is finding 5 results - no rows are being populated in the actual word document. I have attached photos of both the update activity and word template for review. I have another working template that is identical to this one that works but for some reason mine is not.

My end result after running the workflow produces the following:

Ive tried remapping the entire row and table. Nothing seems to be working.

Hi Asyria,

What is the version of Workflow installed on you machine?

Could you please provide a workflow sample with a doc sample to reproduce the issue?

Besides, we have some updates on this activity in Workflow 12, so it would be better to upgrade it if could.

Thanks,

Zhujie

We have version 11 installed as of now.

Here is the document to update and sample workflow attached.

Zhujie,

We got it to work, we think the issue is we were trying to have this is an insert paragraph with the INCLUDETEXT feature in word. It does not seem LF is able to do a table merge - only simple field merge. When we added the paragraph to the original document it worked just fine.

Hi Asyria,

Great to hear it works. Actually, WF supports Table Field Merge which can be configured following this guide: Update Word Document

Thanks,

Zhujie

Zhuijie,

Thanks, we have run into another issue though. When we put the table merge in an IF statement since the paragraph is conditional the table merge seems to break. It will show us the values when the field codes on are but when we turn them off the table rows go away. We think this has to do with the IF statement itself since we have another identical table that works just fine. Do you have any advice for this issue?

Hi Asyria,

What are the field codes? IF statement should not affect the table merge activity. Could you please recheck the differences between tables worked and not worked? Maybe we can test the workflow activity without IF statement to make sure it work as expected and then move it into the IF statement.

Zhujie,

I ran 2 tests:

1. The document without the IF and all merged as expected, perfectly.

2. Added the same paragraph in an IF statement and also left the hardcoded version in as well. Resulting in both paragraphs not merging. Very weird activity.

I have attached my word document with both the IF and hard coded table. Essentially this has two queries one for the subject row and then the table merge grabs rows for a query

Zhujie,

Just checking back to see if you have had any chance to look into this issue. We have a pretty big project that this would help immensely with (if we can use the IF statement), so we don't have to have multiple different word documents getting updated.
