Question

Forms not keeping formatting.

asked on April 13, 2023 Show version history

I've created a form which has not been saving my formatting changes.

Every time I enter the forms pages, it changes the spacing of the elements in several places.

If I make formatting changes then go to the process modeler and publish it the changes are saved in the form, however I am moving in and out of the form pages to make edits often and fixing it every time is very annoying.

Any help is much appreciated.

Hey @████████- if you are still having this issue...

I'm seeing the same thing happening (see my post).

I feel like there is a bug with the system saving the selected field widths when there are six or more items in the row, and instead reverting back to equal field widths.

Obviously, the bug needs to be fixed.  But in the meantime, I've found a workaround that appears to be working consistently.

Once I have my six fields in the row, I change their width so that fields 1-5 are all as narrow as they can be, and field 6 is as wide as it can be.  Then I save changes and leave the page.  When I return to the page, the widths have now finally saved to what I set them at instead of reverting back to equal widths.  I can now set them to what they need to be and save it, and it seems to save consistently at this point.

Note that if I reposition any fields in or out of the row, I have to do it all over again.

Hi, I have noticed, with the new modern designer, that things move based on where you click. So I have had fields move up or down, just because I clicked on them. So defintely see some issues there. I have been using the undo button, if I see it move.

I have some sections with many fields. I noticed that if a field is not in the section, it is aligned differently than the fields in the section. If I drag the field up into the section, it aligns with all the others.

It doesn't sound like it is exactly the same as what you are reporting, but wanted to mention it in this ticket.

I will run this by our UI team and see if this was intentional or not. I did note it is different than the classic designer (where fields are aligned regardless of being in a section).

The first part of your comment may be addressed in an upcoming fix hopefully alongside this original request (ref #405963) but without reproduction from OP I will not be able to confirm it.

The comment about fields with sections is intended behavior. In layout designer you can have fields directly after a section without actually being in the section so the padding is to signify the fields are within the section and any subsequent fields are not. In contrast, fields in classic designer were always inside a section if they followed a section and only a new section header would break the "collapse" behavior of the preceding fields. The section padding in layout designer can be overridden with CSS if desired.

I'm not sure how to reproduce it. It's happening every time for me, but only on that form and I don't know how it started.

If I had to guess it was maybe something to do with copying sections? I've noticed copying elements sometimes removes fields for elements (text above, variable, etc.), maybe they're related?

I'll add that to my notes. Thank you

What version of Forms are you using?

I don't know how to tell which one I'm using, I assume the most recent?

You can click on your name in the top right corner of Forms and then select About.

When I click on my name I only see options for Feedback, My Account, Site Settings, and Sign Out.

Are you using Laserfiche Cloud or Self-Hosted?

Cloud

That will always be on the latest Cloud version. I updated the tags associated with your post to include Laserfiche Cloud.

It would be very useful if you could find a repeatable way to reproduce this. We have some open items for some layout formatting of items right now that I could potentially add this to.

@████████- I'm seeing similar behavior (see this post) - and it seems like something about having 6 or more fields in a row causes it to not save the selected field widths, and instead default back to equal widths each time you return to the Layout Designer screen.

I am experiencing the same thing with the column widths, however, the solution @████████ found is not working for me.  I tried this exact approach (although I have 9 columns vs 6, so I made the first 8 as small as possible and the 9th as large as possible). My width changes appear in the designer immediately (regardless of how wide or narrow), but never work in Preview or Run mode.
