Question

Unattended installation of client using group policy with Server 2016

asked on December 26, 2018

A user wants to install the Laserfiche client 10.3.1 using group policy in a Windows Server 2016 environment.  They have looked into using a script like the links below but the script doesn't run until 5 minutes after a user logs in and they have issues with it.  I did find other posts with information but they are looking for other input.  Anyone have any experience or suggestions on installing the client using Server 2016 and group policy?

Is this for setting up a terminal server environment? If that's the case, I would follow Microsoft's guidance on provisioning Remote Desktop Services. This is for an older version, but I think it still applies. It's been a while since I had to work with RDS.

They are not using a terminal server.  They are inquiring about a GPO to deploy the LF client to all workstations.

My bad. I read "Server 2016 environment", as installing the client on the server.

Have you looked into tracing your GPO processing on the machine to see what's making it slow? If the script only starts 5 minutes in, that's unlikely to be a Laserfiche problem.

And somewhat related, I'm curious as to why they prefer using GPO rather than System Center Configuration Manager to deploy software.

They do not want to implement a SCCM server.  They are going to continue to install the client manually.
