Question

SDK generate pages

asked on December 7, 2016

hello all ,

i need to generate pages from sdk script in workflow, so i found this post here that says that we can use clientautomation class and use the generated pages method.

but when surfing the sdk documentation i did not find any sample on how to use the mentioned class.

My objective is to generate pages for a pdf from workflow SDK script, i am not importing it so the option in the client of generating pages automatically when importing pdf does not imply.

Thank you.

Maher Daher.

We will look into exposing this feature in the future, there have been many requests for it.

The ClientAutomation interface is not compatible with Workflow because it runs in the user's desktop window whereas Workflow is running as a service.

It's like this due to licensing restrictions with the 3rd party component that handles the pdf page generation.

hello Robert,

Thank you for the insight , is there a way to generate pages from the workflow SDK?

And if not, will it be available in the upcoming versions ?

Regards.

Dears,

Is there any update? When will SDK (or Workflow) support generating pages?

We are currently looking into making PDF page generation functionality available as part of Distributed Computing Cluster (DCC). I don't have an ETA yet but I will post one when there is more info to share. Thanks for everyone's patience on this - I know it has been a long-requested feature.

Is Generate Pages available from workflow as a task or from SDK?

Thanks,

Not yet - we're still working on making it available in Workflow via Distributed Computing Cluster (DCC). Would you mind sharing your use case?

Hi Tessa-

A use-case, though it might be a bit obscure. Files get printed in batch from an ERP system; we have a secondary "printer" set up to print a copy to file server. They're all plain text but we want to generate actual images in Laserfiche. If each TXT file represented a single LF document--as is the case in a similar but different process--I can push those to Word via WF and then save as PDF.

For the print batch, however, I need to be able to split the batch into individual documents, which themselves are variable page length. I can't split apart the PDF so instead I'm using Snapshot to generate the TIFF version. This TIFF batch can then be split by QF or WF.

Tessa -- Four years after the initial request you guys still need use cases? smiley

It would be great if you could elaborate why we still don't have this critical feature. Is it performance related or is there some other technical reason? It would be great to know this because we come across this need on a regular basis and it's somewhat frustrating to have to resort to clunky workarounds.

To follow up on this, since I have another situation right now, is that the main reason is to split or merge documents.

In this case, I'm setting up a mail merge in Word that is fairly complex and dynamic. My best option is to externally For Each and create a single page file for each case (normally 1, occasionally 2 or 3). I need these pages to be combined instead of being three separate files. I can get as far as creating PDFs of them, but then...getting them merged involves various clunky workarounds, like Ege mentioned.

Is Generating Pages in a workflow available as of yet?

Need this functionality as well.  Managing attachments from Forms, and launching workflow to manage remainder of business process in Workflow.

Can we have options to generate searchable text within laserfiche SDk for PDF document ?

What other options available ?

Thanks,

Pratik
