Question

saving word file in laserfiche after making changes

asked on August 11, 2016

I have a user running Laserfiche version 9.1 having an issue with making changes to a Word document in Laserfiche & then trying to save it - it doesn't keep the changes.  We checked her options & they are set the same way as mine are (and I can modify a document & when I go to close it - it prompts me to save/over-write/create new document, etc).  I am running version 9.2 - could the problem be a version difference?

Thank you -

Karen

Fixed the problem after working with IT folks.  Basically deleted account out of LF & re-added.  Not sure if it was a glitch when we migrated from one server to a shared service.  But whatever it was, the user is able to save documents now.

How is she saving the document and how long has the file been opened when she closes it? We had problems on 9.1 with people keeping their files open for long periods of time and they would lose their connection to Laserfiche so the standard Word save options(the floppy disk and ctrl+s) wouldn't save to Laserfiche properly. The workaround for us was to use the Laserfiche Tab to save instead, which is more reliable. You can also have them check in/check out the document while editing for an even more bullet proof method.

On the other hand, if she is unable to see her changes on a document, but other people are able to see them from their accounts, that would be a problem with her temp files. We had this happen on 9.1 and the solution is to clear the temp files from her computer.

I often have this same problem; when we were on Vs 9 and even now when on Vs 10.  It appears to be intermittent with us and when I got IT involved, he wasn't able to recreate what I had seen.  It is frustrating and has caused us to begin to bring in only final documents, using the Snapshot tool, instead of bringing in the Word docs and trusting that we can modify them after that.

As far as the Laserfiche Tab goes, we appear to no longer have the option to save our changes (overwrite) using that option.  I just tested it again, changed one word in the Word document, went to the LF tab and it only offers "Save as New Document".

(I am the ADMIN responsible for our firm's successful implementation of the new Laserfiche software, which we have been using now since 2014, starting with Vs. 8.)

If the option to overwrite doesn't show up that means it lost its connection to LF at some point. The work around we use is to select "Save as a new document" and simply select the same file in the dialogue that pops up. This will give you the warning that goes something like "This document already exists, would you like to overwrite, save as a new version, rename" which you would select overwrite and it would do so.

Checked with the user.  I thought she was on version 9.1, she's actually on 8.1.  She uses the save option in Word & does not see the Laserfiche save option in Word.  When working on a document it could be a short time it's open & other times it's open half a day or more.  Her co-worker cannot see the changes she made to the document (but when coworker makes changes to a document & saves it - HER changes save into Laserfiche).
