Question

Save issue on Laserfiche Rio 9.2.343

asked on December 9, 2014

Dear All,

We have a client having a save issue, where changes made in document is not saved to LF repository.

Scenario 1:
1. User opens a word document in Lf.
2. Go to LF Tab in Word, click on save to laserfiche> "new document"
3. Browse to a different directory, change metadata and save the document
4. Continue to work on the document.
5. Click on save icon to save the document(the save options of LF does not appear).
6. The user closes the document and next time he opens the document the change is not there

Scenario 2: (Multiple users updates information on an excel file. Versioning is enabled for the file)
1. User A opens an excel file, makes necessary changes and saves the file.
2. User C opens the same file the same day, and do not make change in the document.
3. User B opens the same file the next day, makes changes to the file and saves the file.
4. User C opens the same file. An older version of the document is loaded. He makes changes to the file and saves the file.
5. User B opens the same file and does not find its change on the file.
-- After looking at the version history we are able to identify that error occured at user C level.

Laserfiche is installed in a three tier architecture
Database server: SQL server 2008 R2 SP2, OS Windows Server 2012
Application Server: Laserfiche Rio 9.0.2.343, OS Windows Server 2012
Web Server: Laserfiche Web Server 9.0.2.343 & Laserfiche Audit Trail 9.0.2.343, OS Windows Server 2012

Laserfiche Clients: Windows 8 64bit, Office 2013 std 32 bit (15.0.4615.1000)
The client machines have been created in a Citrix VDI-In-a-Box 5.4 environment. more information about same is http://www.citrix.com/content/dam/citrix/en_us/documents/products-solutions/citrix-vdi-in-a-box-product-overview.pdf
McAfee Agent 4.0.1500 Move Antivirus multiplatform 2.6.129 is installed on all servers and workstations

Has anybody installed and used laserfiche in such an environment. Did you have the error?

What approach did you apply to install Laserfiche in client workstations? Did you install the LF client in the Golden image or virtualise the application?

Is there anything we can do in addition when we are in VDI-in-a-box environment?

Hi Sweety,

As a general rule of thumb, never click "Save" in Microsoft Office or use the floppy disk icon (save). If you want to save changes to LF then use the save to Laserfiche in the office ribbon under the Laserfiche tab.

The reason for this, is that when you open a document from Laserfiche it places a temporary copy in the TEMP directory. When you open the document from Laserfiche there is a link established between LF and Office. Over time this link drops and clicking save doesn't update LF. Clicking save or clicking the floppy disk icon only updates the temporary copy (not the copy in Laserfiche). This is also why you don't see the LF options in step 5 scenario 1.

This is a known issue with LF with all versions and causes all of my customers massive headaches. I always advise them if they are going to work on the document for a long time, check the document out. If they have to work with it open, then never use the save or floppy disk icon.

I was lead to believe that this was supposed to be fixed in 9.2. But looking at your situation. It seems not.

Hope this helps!

Yes, You are right this has been resolved by the hotfix and the client is using laserfiche in a VDI infrastructure with no save issue

I have the same scenario but its not MS Office, but in Adobe Acrobat Standard, there is no Laserfiche Ribbon.

Hi Levi,

If you are experiencing this with editable PDF's then your only option to guarantee changes are saved is to check the document out of Laserfiche before you modify it and check them back in afterwards.
