Can Audit Trail Be Upgraded without Upgrading the Server?

I am currently working with a client who has an issue in Audit Trail that is resolved in the 10.1 release of LF. We want to be able to potentially upgrade just Audit Trail. Does the Audit Trail version have to be the same version as the server?

In general, downstream applications (such as the audit trail reporter) need to be equal or earlier than the current Server version. The 10.1 release is an exception where 10 and 10.1 components should all be compatible with each other in any direction. Your tagging indicates you're looking for this against a v9 server though, and that's not something I'd recommend.
