Question

Retrieval Named license and Named Device options

asked on March 15, 2016 Show version history

If an employee has a Retrieval Named User license, but periodically uses a PC (device) that has a Full Named Device license, will that employee’s access change while using the PC?

In other words, if Pete has a Retrieval license, and as such can only “read” the data in folder ABC, and then if the PC with its Full license has “update” access to the ABC folder, does that mean that Pete can do Full license work while logged into the PC?

In order for a user to use a retrieval named user license, they must be flagged as read-only in the Laserfiche Server administration console. Even if they sometimes use a machine with a full device license, they're specific account will always be read-only. Doing otherwise would be counter to the EULA which states that a user doing full license work should be a full user in all cases.

Hi Ryan,

Users accessing content from a PC with a device license will still have their specific account rights and privileges applied to them.  So in your example, Pete would still only have read only access to folder ABC while using that PC.  For more details about each license, please see our helpfiles online
