Drag and drop not working with UAC and Run as Administrator

asked on February 17, 2016 Show version history

We have a customer whose group policy has UAC set to the default level.  When UAC is turned on, and the LF client is opened normally, it gives an error when trying to set either the scan engine or selecting the scanner.  The work around on this was to check the option "Run this program as an administrator" under the compatibility tab on the LF.exe file.  Unfortunately, while this fixed the scanner issue, it won't allow the user to drag and drop files into the repository.  They can import, but not drag and drop.  If UAC is turned off, (while still ran as administrator), they can drag and drop the files in the repository.  And if UAC is turned on, and LF client is NOT run as administrator it will allow drag and drop.

So in short the breakdown:

UAC off, LF client normal start up or run as admin, scanning works, drag and drop works. (not possible due to group policy.)

UAC on, LF client normal start up, scanning breaks, drag and drop works.

UAC on, LF client Run as administrator, scanning works, drag and drop breaks

This is for LF 9.2.1.562.  I also tested this locally on a vm which has LF 9.2.0.343 and it behaves the same way.

I saw this:  https://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/75114/Unable-to-drag-and-drop-from-client , but there is no work around to the issue.

Does anyone have any ideas why drag and drop can't be used when the program is run as admin?

Scanning requires elevation. Since it's launched by the LF Client, it takes on the privileges of that application. So that's the behavior you're seeing when you run the Client as an administrator.
