Question

setup could not establish a connection with the specified license manager server

asked on January 15, 2016

Using License Manager 8.3.1.  Trying to install SDK, get the error "setup could not establish a connection with the specified license manager server"

I went ahead and issued a license file and it worked.  But it SHOULD be able to get one automatically from my License Manager.

I give it the FQDN for the server but no luck.  I tried using current user (a laserfiche admin) and  a username and password for a Laserfiche user (also an admin).

Any tips what's going on here?

I tried using current user (a laserfiche admin) and  a username and password for a Laserfiche user (also an admin).

It may be a permissions issue.

What matters for contacting the License Manager is the permissions for the current Windows user/specified Windows user. Laserfiche users (i.e., a user created within a repository, not a Windows user)  cannot be used for authentication, and the permissions given to Windows users within the LF Admin console do not affect access to the License Manager.

There are two ways a Windows user can be given permissions for licensing:

  1. The Windows user is a local admin on the machine where License Manager is installed
  2. The Windows user has been added to the "License Administrators" list for the licensing database:

Thanks Brianna, in this case the Active Directory user first mentioned was both a local admin on the License Manager server and a member of the License Administrators group.
