No it doesn't need renewing every year. Only the VAR pack license expires annually. You only need to renew the Rio license if you add additional options or make any license changes.
This isn't of course to be confused with LSAP (software maintenance), which does need to be paid each year to retain software support and upgrades.

The VAR pack is the software that the Laserfiche dealers use for demos and testing. Not something for end users.
I can't comment on pricing but if you get in touch with your nearest Laserfiche re-seller they should be able to advise you on pricing. If you contact Laserfiche directly through Laserfiche.com they should be able to put you in touch with your nearest re-seller.
