Question

Dir Server creates duplicate machines for some applications

asked on October 12, 2015

Good day everyone.  This issue has been ongoing, so I thought I would ask.    Our Directory Server is duplicating machines when registering applications.  We currently have 5 Organizations set up on top of the root (Root, Org 1, Org 2, Org 3, Org 4, Org 5 each with their own VM "machine" instance and want to register each organization's application installs in their respective organization and assigned Machine.

What is happening is that only two of the Orgs have its Server, WebAccess, Forms, Mobile, etc all listed under their organization and linked with their Machine.  The other three Orgs created separate identically named Machines when registering their applications in DS.  Like this:

Why is DS splitting these up into separate machines and how do I get all of an orgs apps registered to only one machine ?  I want each org to manage their apps and users under one machine each.  I have tried to deactivate one group and re-register, but they keep doing their own thing.

Thank you all.

Kevin

I'm not sure if this is what you are encountering since I am not aware of a support case for the issue, but we have found (and plan to release a fix for with Directory Server 10) a bug that sounds similar.

One way we can reproduce: if you are registering applications from the UI and select your machine before you select the organization, it may register the same machine multiple times under the same organization.

Since the planned fix involves more robust checks for duplication, it may help resolve your issue even if your scenario to reproduce is slightly different.

To work around the issue:

  1. Delete the duplicate machines from the machines tab, leaving only one per organization. This will remove existing application instances.
  2. Re-register your applications, making sure to select the organization before selecting the machine.

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention.

Brianna.  Thank you very much for the response.  That sounds exactly like what may be happening  yes

I'm sure I don't always register the ,application via the  same path, so that makes sense.   I just wouldn't have suspected the route.  I'll go test it and if it works, you may have discovered the "route cause".  laugh

It's hard to tell what is going on just from looking at your screenshot. I would recommend talking to your VAR and tech support for help.
