Is Import Agent a 32 bit application? With OS restrictions, I am hoping IA is a 64-bit application, otherwise I am unable to import documents that are larger than 2-3 GB.
Import Agent should be able to handle large files on a 32 bit machine because it doesn't load the whole file into memory to process it. Are you actually encountering a problem with large files?

Import Agent is a 32 bit application. Having a 64 bit version is something that we would consider for a possible future release.
A user was trying to import PDF's that were around 3-4 GB. When they would use Quick Fields or the Client, they would receive a "System.Out.OF.Memory" error. Laserfiche said that this is a limitation on the OS they have. Only 2-3 GB of RAM is allocated to 32-bit applications.
If Import Agent can import, then this would be a viable option.
Just so we understand what exactly is going on, based on your other post, it sounds like this is only an issue when Quick Fields or Import Agent use the PDF IFilter to extract text?
