Question

Device & Server licensing.

asked on September 28, 2015

Following up on a question I read earlier. In a named device license scenario can you create multiple users, not named, each with different Laserfiche security and access rights and based on who is logged into the Device License have the access and security change?  That is the way I read the Licensing White Paper.  Does this work with Rio and Avante?  Is there a difference in Device License and Server License?

Thank you

Jeff

You are correct about the security and access rights. As many accounts can be created as necessary with different privileges. It does work for both Rio and Avante.

Basically, you just assign the license to a computer MAC address instead of a user account in the Named Users section of the administration console. It does not change how the server itself is licensed. You can mix and match the two different types as much as you would like. Generally we set this up for central scanner type people who do not necessarily have or need a always on account.

What John posted is correct. Conceptually, you can think of it as the machine itself being the licensed 'user', not the user - in that case the user is just authentication and authorization, but not licensing. This is specifically intended for scenarios where the individual machine is more primary then the specific user, such as scan stations.

Note that this is not avaliable for web applications such as Web Access or Forms.
