Question

Server OS Upgrade

asked on July 28, 2015

Good Afternoon,

I was wondering if there are any known issues I should be aware of if i'm planning on upgrading our server from a Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008 in respect to the Laserfiche software. The current versions are 9.02.685. Would I need to do a fresh install after the upgrade or would everything carry over the same?

Thanks!

Hi Juan,

Upgrading from Windows 2003 to 2008 "should not" require you to reinstall the software and the fingerprint shouldn't change either so there wouldn't be any licensing concerns.

With that being said though, we suggest erring on the side of caution. That would include taking a proper backup of your repository as well as noting the current fingerprint of the server. After the OS upgrade, you may not even need to restore from backup, but just reinstall the software. As for noting the fingerprint from before, that's in case you find that you need to manually deactivate so you can activate with a new fingerprint if necessary.

Regards

A client tried doing a Windows 2003 to 2008 upgrade of a LF server.  He ran into UUID issues.  Would deactivating and reactivating fix this issue?   Would deactivating before doing the OS upgrade be a good idea?

The safest would be to deactivate first, then perform the upgrade, then reactivate. It shouldn't be necessary in most cases, but it will ensure that there won't be any issues with the fingerprint following the upgrade. You can use the manual tools for this.
