Question

Windows Authentication vs Users

asked on June 18, 2015 Show version history

Currently we are creating Users (with concurrent log-ins up to 4), however we would like to switch to using Windows Accounts. Our Named User license is (example) 5. So currently, technically up to 20 people can be logged on at one time. However, if we switch to Windows Accounts, we are really stuck with 5 log-ins. Is there a way around this or how can we make it work to match the total concurrent log-ins?

Thank you.

With 5 Named licenses, you can technically have up to 5 users logged into the repository.  The 4 concurrent connections per Named License does not license different users per connection.  It is to allow the user to be in Laserfiche and use Snapshot and scan and have multiple LF browsers open into different locations, but it is still only technically licensed for 1 user.  To log in multiple users with the same Named license is a breach of the licensing agreement and is not permitted.

If you have 15 users, they must each be assigned a Named license either to their user or their device (PC).

Back in version 7 and I believe so of the version 8, there was con-current licensing. You were able to have 5 licenses with 20 users. Laserfiche in recent years has moved away from con-current licensing to where each user has their own license. You can assign more than one windows account to a Laserfiche User account, however you will run into login issues. The best way now is to spend the extra to get enough licenses for all of your users.
