Question

Question

add master license

asked on June 5, 2015

Using the Laserfiche License Manager 8.3.1 I am attempting to request a new master license from laserfiche over the Internet.  It is my understanding that online activation uses activation.laserfiche.com on port 443.  I had a firewall exception made for that IP/port.  But I'm getting an error "The activation tool returned an error; please check the log on the license manager server for details. (2107)"

I don't see any logs for license manager in the event viewer.  Where are license manager logs kept?  Are other IP/ports required for online activation?

Hello Erik,

The activation logs are located by default in "C:\ProgramData\Laserfiche". What errors do you see that correspond to the time stamp in which you attempted to renew the master license?

The log location will depend on the OS. It can also be in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Laserfiche\LFActivationLog.txt"

Thank you.  The log states:

6/5/2015 6:02:31 PM: Product activation failed; please contact Laserfiche Support for assistance. (Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel with authority 'activation.laserfiche.com'.)(9444)

6/5/2015 6:02:31 PM: Tool exited with status code: -2.(9444)

It looks like I have the IP/port correct in my firewall exception but my server thinks the certificate is invalid.  I checked with my network team and they will need to make another exception for the certificate revocation list which appears to be hosted by godaddy.  I'll update if that helps.

Thanks!

You can do an Offline Activation then add and obtain the license that way.  You just need to do it from a machine that already has un-limted access (from a home network perhaps). That way, you don't have to make any firewall exceptions.

See: https://support.laserfiche.com/KB/1012198.  Once you have the Master License, you can simply add it to the existing one.

We did an offline activation and we were told we must activate through the product. See our current post:

That post does not say you must use activation. That post is stating that you do not just put the lf.licx file in a windows folder to license Directory Server itself. You can upload the license file generated from a Rio key to a specific licensing site in LFDS using the "Upload license file option" on the same screen where you can perform the activation.
