Question

Rio License Management

asked on May 7, 2015

Hi,

We are using License Manager 8.3.1 . Maximum version of Weblink allowed is 8.2 . We want to use recently released weblink 9.0.

We are about to upgrade license based on steps outlined at https://support.laserfiche.com/KB/1013004  by using "renew license" option.

Once we use this option, do we need to regenerate license files for existing laserfiche server, quick fields , import agent etc? or will they continue working without issues

Best Regards,

Srikanth Surabhi

Hi Srikanth,

Updating your Rio Master License so you can install newer versions of software will not require you to regenerate application licenses for your existing products. If you are unable to update the master license, we'd suggest doing it manually via the Activation Tool. Then once you've downloaded the new master license file, use that to update your Rio Licensing Database.

About the upgrade failing, are you asking about upgrading WebLink? As long as you have a backup of the WebLink 8.2 web files or config files, then you should be able to just reinstall WebLink 8.2 and use the backed up files to get your system back to the state it was in.

If you're asking about a failure in trying to update the master license through the License Manager, it won't impact your current Licensing Database. Then you can just manually get a new license via the Activation Tool as mentioned earlier.

Regards

I was able to upgrade license file , generate a license file for weblink 9.0 and installed weblink successfully.

However, when I try to configure I am receiving the error "No license has been allocated for this user. [9520]" .

I created a laserfiche user, allocated a password and marked "Only allow read-only" access

Repository Named User is selected as false.

What kind of licenses should be applied to laserfiche users which are used for weblink, import agent?

How to update licenses allocated to existing repository to accomdate both weblink user and import

Additional information : I just checked the master file. It says we have Certain amount of Named user licenses but total Retrieval Named user licenses = 0

Where exactly are you seeing the 9520 error? Is it when trying to log into WebLink? If you are using the read-only non named user account you created, then you'll also have to make sure that the Laserfiche Server hosting the repository you're trying to connect to has been licensed with the dual processor Public Portal license your organization has. Also, that means the Laserfiche Server computer cannot have more than two CPUs (according to the utility in KB 1012643) in order for the Public Portal licensing to work properly.

Also, can you clarify exactly what the issue you're having with Import Agent is?

Lastly, I'd recommend contacting your reseller as well as they can provide more direct assistance with your Rio License Management questions. I'll also reach out to your reseller on your behalf and ask them to contact you regarding answering additional questions you may have.

*Edit* - The retrieval named user license count is accurate.

Hi Alexander,

I was able to install and configure weblink by creating a laserfiche user called "weblinkuser" with a Full Repository Named User license. My Next question is regarding account for running import agent jobs.

Should it also be a Full Named User License? And should we associate a domain account to the laserfiche user so that it can access share paths?

Regards,

Srikanth

While named users can log into WebLink, you'll need to configure users to be read-only and not using a named license in order to take advantage of Public Portal licensing.

As for Import Agent, the Laserfiche user you've configured for your profiles do not need to be named users. In regards to the Import Agent service account, yes, you should use a domain account if you want to configure profiles that monitor network locations.

Thank you. So if I understand correctly, a Laserfiche user ( lfimport for example ) can be created with a password. Since license is not allocated to this user, we cannot login to client etc using this user and password. However import agent profiles can be run using this account. Is this correct?

Yes, that's correct.

Also, if the upgrade fails for any reason, is there any document that describes roll back procedure.

Thank you
