Question

Adding Users from Different AD servers / domains into a single repository

asked on April 28, 2015

Hi,

I need to be able to add Users from different Active Directory Server / different Domains as Windows Accounts to a single repository. We are running a Rio implementation using LFDS 9.2 and LF Server 9.2.

I was able to add a separate identity provider in LFDS pointing to the second domain/ AD server and was able to add a user successfully from that domain onto LFDS and assign a Full License.

I then wanted to add the User in the Laserfiche Admin console as a Windows account. I then had the following behavior on 2 different machines:

1. On my Laptop:

1.1 When trying to add the user, I select Locations and then the domain containing the required user, do the search which resolves the user name and click "ok."

1.2 Once I click "ok", the User Name is blanked out and I'm unable to add the User.

2. On the Server:

2.1 On the Server I perform the same steps as above but using the LF Admin console loaded locally. (Versions are the same between the Server and the version loaded on my laptop).

2.2 On the Server however it keeps the User and I'm able to add it.

Once the User is added, if I refresh my LF Admin Console on my laptop I see the following 2 users listed:

On the Server however the User name is being displayed correctly:

Even though the user is added, it is still reflecting that it has no "Named License" applied making it a Non-Named User.

Why would this be? and how do I get around this?

You would need to do a restart on your Laserfiche Server Service, so it would sync up with the directory server license.  After the restart of the Service, go back to the admin console and you will see the licensing turn into Full.

Hi Tommy,

Thank you for the info. I realized this yesterday afternoon after changing the User that the service logs in with and restarting the service for the change to take effect, I noticed the license type turned to "Full".

This however still does not explain why for the one domain it is instant and for the other a Restart is required? Also, why would the one Admin console only show the SID Id for the users in the other domain but the Admin Console on the Server itself shows the user correctly?
