Question

Uninstall Workflow SDK 8.3 Failed

asked on March 17, 2015

Hello.

I'm upgrading our QA environment from Rio 8.3 to 9.2.1 and everything installed successfully, except the Workflow. :( During the Prerequisites I get the error message "Uninstall Workflow SDK 8.3 Failed". :(

I went ahead and uninstalled the Workflow 8.3 manually from the Control Panel but the problem still persists.

Any ideas how to resolve this issue?

Thanks

Rudy

Can you try to reinstall WF SDK8.3 first then run the MS Fixit tool?

Thank you Raymond. I see Workflow SDK 8.3 on page 4 of product downloads but it does not allow me to download it. :( I found a folder (\Laserfiche\LFShare\WF\WF_SDK_83\en-us) on my server that appears to contain Workflow SDK 8.3. The installation executable's name is dotNetFx40_Full_setup.exe however, when I run it I get a message "Your installation will not occur. Same or higher version of .NET Framework 4 has already been installed on this computer."

That's the .Net 4 installer. Is there a x86 folder under en-us? There should be a WorkflowSDKSetup.msi in it. Or run the Autorun.exe in the main folder.

That did it. Thank you guys. You are awesome. Raymond, I didn't need to run the MSFixit tool. Once I reinstalled Workflow SDK 8.3, the install process for 9.2.1 handled everything on its own.

Is there a tick box to bypass prerequisites?

Does this happen if you log in with a different windows user?

Does it show up in Add Remove programs still? If so, you use the MSFixit utility to remove it.  It is available here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/mats/program_install_and_uninstall.  Just follow the prompts and point it to the SDK installation.

If you've removed WF 8.3 through add/remove programs but you are still encountering issues installing WF 9.2.1, I'd go ahead and run the utility and see if that does the job. If not, you'll probably want to talk to your reseller about opening a support case - we'll need to take a look at the installation log and see what's causing the installation to fail.

Thank you Justin. Just ran the utility and it didn't even list the Workflow Server in the list of apps to clean up. So it looks like the uninstall was fine.

Any chance you can point me to where the installation log might be?

Thanks

Workflow SDK 8.3 was a separate installation from Workflow itself. So it should appear on its own in Programs and Features or Microsoft's utility.

To get an installation log, you want to run setup.exe from a command line with the -log flag.

setup.exe -log C:\temp\WFInstall

Thank you Miruna. It did not show up in the list of programs in Control Panel nor does it show up in the list of programs in the MS Utility.

This explains why I couldn't find the log. :) I'll run it manually and see if I can find anything useful. If not I may post it here. :)

OK here's the log:

[PID: 16828] 16:48:29.029 No MSI update was necessary.
[PID: 16828] 16:48:41.395 Attempting to remove Uninstall Workflow SDK 8.3

Didn't see anything I could put my finger on.

Hi Chris. Thanks for the reply. Nope, there's no tick box to bypass prerequisites. :( The only ticks are

1. Install 32 bit version

2. Create Desktop Shortcut

3. Create Windows Firewall exception

Hi Raymond. Thanks for your reply as well. No Laserfiche Workflow no longer appears in the Add/Remove programs. I assume that means I don't need to run MSFixit utility.

Thanks

Rudy
