Laserfiche and SQL Web Edition

posted on March 16, 2015

We're doing a AWS cloud hosted Laserfiche installation supporting access via WebAccess and Desktop clients accessing LF across the internet.  Based on my reading of MS's usage restrictions on SQL Web Edition, this implementation meets their standards.  Anyone aware of any issues/concerns with using SQL Web Edition?  The primary driver is that it allows for more memory usage by the SQL instance than the Express edition does, yet hits a much better price point than SQL Standard.  I've just not come across any references to anyone in the LF community noting they've used SQL Web Edition, so thought I might put this out there for feedback/discussion.

Thanks, Damon

Looks like this question was ultimately answered here:

Hi Damon,

Can't say I've had any first hand experience of deployment with SQL Web Edition. But I'm guessing as long as Laserfiche is licensing correctly for the relevant version of SQL (express or other) Laserfiche as an application doesn't care what SQL version it is using. The interesting part would be, if you could run Laserfiche using an express license but using SQL Web Edition as the DB provider.

This is more of a SQL performance question I guess. Calling all DBA's! What's your take? laugh

Not a performance question, is a licensing question.  You would not be able to run SQL Web with the LF for SQL Express licensing.  SQL Web is considered a "full edition" of SQL.
