Renaming server license

asked on March 11, 2015 Show version history

As a result of an issue we had recently regarding an incorrect license file I learned that renaming an existing license as a backup (i.e. lf.licx to lf.licx.old) can interfere with the "proper" license and cause the server to report the license info incorrectly.  We were advised to move the license backup to a separate folder.

Why would a renamed license interfere in this way - how does the server "know" about the renamed license? It is very common for us (VAR) and our clients to simply rename an old license in case the new one is incorrect or corrupted.

The server doesn't know about lf.licx.old. It only checks for lf.licx or lf.lic.

Edit: However, it doesn't detected the license has been renamed or replaced until it is restarted.
