Question

Team Licensing vs. Avante Licensing Limitations

asked on February 23, 2015

My organization is currently using a Team/United licensing scheme, but is bumping into a licensing barrier of 5 full users, and 10 retrieval users.

Oddly enough, my organization currently has 5 full users, and 13 retrieval users and has not received any messages about the above note barriers.

My Laserfiche reseller tells me I'm unable to purchase more licenses for WebLink (retrieval).  Has anyone else bumped into this ceiling?

My organization does not require the Avante, or Rio solution, and I'm not sure if Laserfiche is trying to phase out the Team/United solution?

Has anyone else bumped the Team/United licensing ceiling?

Thank you,

Jason Wagenaar

Hi Jason,

Laserfiche Team (S10) supports up to 5 concurrent full user connections, 10 concurrent read-only user connections, and 1 million pages. Laserfiche United (S30) does not have these restrictions. Laserfiche Team and United are no longer current options and cannot be purchased, so yes effectively they are being phased out. Having said that you can still run the latest version of Laserfiche with this licensing model.

As far as web link goes I'm not too sure on that one but I think it's down the licensing model of web link. From memory these are:-

  • Public Portal with 25 concurrent retrieval only connections
  • Public Portal with unlimited connections for a dual processor server
  • Public Portal with unlimited connections for a multiprocessor server

I would double check with LF to be sure.

Hope this helps! smileyyes

Hello Chris:

Thank you for the information.  I'm not particularly keen on when software vendors move from a concurrent licensing scheme to a fixed licensing scheme, but this seems to be the trend these days...

I'll need to find out if my organization has the S10, or S30.  Given the fact we have 13 retrieval licenses I'm thinking maybe we are S30?

Regardless, I'm likely going to have to get confirmation directly from Laserfiche.

Sincerely,

Jason Wagenaar

Hi Jason,

I think there were some edge cases where under certain circumstances the 5 & 10 license limit could be exceeded (usually by special application/permission from Laserfiche) so I wouldn't assume it's S30.

You should be able to login or register on the support site using your Laserfiche serial number (this is found in the LF.licx file on any of the clients [c:\program files\laserfiche\client] by default]) and you can login to the support site and see what you are registered for directly without involving Laserfiche.

Just for your reference when you look at your LSAP card. S10 is Laserfiche Team and S30 is Laserfiche United.

Hope this helps! yes

As far as the WebLink goes, in a Team/United system, it will use licenses from your concurrent license pool.  The "Public Portal" licensing that Chris outlined above is only available in Rio/Avante systems.

The 5 Full user, 10 Read Only user, and 1 million page restrictions of the Team (S10) system have been in place since 2008.  If you had your system prior to that, you could have exceeded the current limits without getting any special exceptions.

Hello Bert:

That now makes more sense!  Thank you for the clarification.

My organization has been using Laserfiche in a Team licensing environment since 2007.  The Team licensing environment certainly meets our e-documentation requirements, and it appears Avante is a considerably more expensive solution that comes with services we are not likely to use.

For now, I'll have to wait and see what proposal Laserfiche comes back with to move us into an Avante solution.

Thank you,

Jason Wagenaar
