Question

Import a new version of a Word document from within Laserfiche

asked on February 20, 2015

I saw a similar post back  in 2014 but there really wasn't an answer, so I'll ask again.

Attorneys will be editing Word documents using version control to manage contract requests.  Requestors will have access to the Word documents that are being edited via Weblink.  So they would be able to download the Word document and alter its contents.  In order to submit these changes back to the Attorney I have created a LF submission form that will automatically put the new document in the folder with the original contract.  What I would like is to be able to use the Versions/Upload button to make the submission the current version.  When I click the Browse button I am looking a the Windows folder structure.  Is what I need possible?

Thanks,
Sandy

I'm not 100% clear if your submission form is a custom app, or using Laserfiche Forms itself. If a document conflict is detected on import, the Laserfiche desktop Client will provide some options, including saving as a new version. If it's your own custom app, you might need to explicitly provide that as what you want to do.

That said, I'm not quite clear on your scenario - the Attorneys are logging into WebLink to obtain the documents, and then using an external upload mechanism to submit modifications to them?

I forgot to mention that I'll be using Import Agent to get the modified document back into Laserfiche.  Yes I am using a Laserfiche form to allow people to submit modified documents back to Laserfiche.

Let me try again:

Word document is stored in Laserfiche and user has enabled version control.

The document is accessible to other reviewers via Weblink.  When they make changes to said document they go to a Laserfiche form to resubmit the Word document with their changes.

When they attach the Word document to the form it will automatically be imported into Laserfiche (using Import Agent) and a workflow will route it back to the folder where the original Word document is stored.  When this happens I would like the original user to have the ability to make the uploaded version part of the original's version control.  But when I'm in the Version Control window and click the upload button I can only upload a file from the file system (Windows Explorer) not a document stored in Laserfiche.

I also included a screenshot.

Hope this is more clear now.  Thanks for your help.

It would be good to know if this is possible or can be possible. Uploading a version from Laserfiche.
