Question

Trying to activate and install SDK 9.2 to fix OCR Engine issue.

asked on December 4, 2014

I downloaded my license files from Laserfiche, but I am unable to activate SDK 9.2 with the .lic file because it wants a .licx file. Changing the extension to .licx does not help. Thoughts?

Credentials it was. We are experiencing some sort of isolated authentication issue where only the initial Windows user is able to update licensing.

Thanks for all your help. Hopefully this thread will help others.

The 9.2 SDK doesn't use a license file downloaded from the support site. You'd need to activate at instal time using either a provided activation key or by referencing the Rio LM/LFDS, depending on your situaion.

In a Rio environment, you will need to update the master license as that will then allow you to generate application licenses for the latest version, in this case, SDK 9.2. See KB 1013004 for more details.

The master license failed to update. My LFActivationLog shows the following error: "Product activation failed; please contact Laserfiche Support for assistance. (There are no active activations for the specified activation key.)(3024)".

In the License Manager Administration Console, right click on your licensing database and select "Add master license." When that dialog pops up, choose to "Request the master license from Laserfiche" but do not check the box to "Renew license in database." Leave that option blank. Manually enter in your Rio activation key. You can choose to save a copy of the received master license file or not.

Once that's done, see if the activation is successful.

Just tried that and received this error: "The database 'LF9RIOLicenseMgr' already has an active license. (2108)".

Go into C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\License Manager and manually run ActivationTool.exe. Select the option to "Activate this computer" and supply your activation key. Validate the key and confirm that the product and version say Rio 9.2. Save the license file to the Windows Desktop. You don't need to save the ACTIVATIONKEY file.

Once the lf.licx license file is downloaded to the Windows Desktop, go back into the License Manager Administration Console. Right click on your licensing database and select "Add master license." When that dialog pops up, choose to "Import the master license from a file" and then browse to the lf.licx file on the Desktop.

See if that completes successfully now.

That worked. I can see now that Toolkit 9.1 has updated to Toolkit 9.2 under Registered Applications.

EDIT: Unfortunately I still can't install SDK 9.2. I keep getting the error "Setup could not establish a connection with the specified License Manager server. Please check your server name and credentials."

I've tried different credentials and even the server ip address instead of the name with no luck. I know the server is working because I can manipulate documents with my code.

Could the computer you're trying to install SDK 9.2 on not be able to communicate with the License Manager server? Or perhaps the user you're logged into Windows as on that computer not have enough rights to the License Manager?

What if you go into the License Manager Administration Console and in the Toolkit 9.2 node under Registered Applications, right click that and select the option to "Generate License."

Save the license file to the Windows Desktop. Then copy it over to the computer where you are installing the SDK. In the Laserfiche SDK 9.2 Setup, on the product activation page, choose the option to "Activate using the following license file:" and then just browse to that license file you copied over.

See if that allows the installation to complete.

I have thoroughly checked communication with License Manager server and credentials.

Tried to generate and use a new lf.licx file. I received the error, "The Laserfiche license file did not contain a proper license for this product. Please make sure you have selected the proper location."

Can you provide us with a copy of the SDK 9.2 lf.licx file that you generated from the License Manager Administration Console? You can open a case with your Laserfiche reseller and provide it that way or email the file to support@laserfiche.com and in the subject, just attention it Alex.

I was able to install Laserfiche SDK 9.2 using your license file. Can you confirm that the license file you pointed to during the installation wizard is the same one that you emailed to Laserfiche Support?

If there's still an issue, then please open a support case through your Laserfiche reseller as we will need to investigate the matter further.

It is the same license file. I will continue troubleshooting with the reseller. I have a feeling it might be a credentials issue.
