Feature Request: Synchronizing/merging Parallel Gateways

asked on October 21, 2014

Currently a customer has requested that a form be routed to various departments for parallel review. Each user task will have backup personnel to take action after intermediate timers. Though the timer event should interrupt the attached activity, it looks to be that synchronizing parallel gateways currently requires each incoming path to be completed before it can merge and move onto the next step, but this isn't always the case. It would be much more efficient to do this rather than having the business process be sent from one person to another and so on.

Is there any information on whether this is in the works or will be addressed?

Instead of having both the task normally to be done, and the task done in the case of the timer pointing to the parallel gateway, you will want to have the arrows from those tasks be collected into an exclusive or inclusive gateway which will then proceed to the parallel gateway. This way, if the process routes for 3 simultaneous parallel reviews, only three arrows point into the parallel gateway, allowing it to proceed. Exclusive and Inclusive Gateways dont care the amount of arrows coming into them, they process each arrow as it comes in.
