Question

Setting up a Role Based user group and assigning users to the group

asked on September 24, 2014

Hi, one of my clients has purchased 7 full Avante licenses, and i was told there is a option of setting up a role based group ( diff from a group )and allocating up to 4 users to the role group. is this correct and if so how is this done. I have tried setting up a new group but this doesnt seem to be correct.

Thanks Dave

Hi David,

Laserfiche does not have special separate 'role based groups'. We often recommend creating Laserfiche groups based on organizational roles; perhaps this is where the confusion lies?

Hi Jason, neither of these links appear to be functional.

I believe this article is the updated version. The section that mentions roles is the first one, "Security".  It's not a complete guide, just a reference.

Thanks very much Brianna, I was actually looking for a way for a user to select a role in a template field e.g. "HR Manager" then have Workflow find the role member, look up the member details in Active Directory (via Find User) and use the returned email address for sending a notification.  I'm not sure where the best place to configure the role and content is so that Workflow can use it.  Is this something you are able to advise on or should I post a new question?  Thanks!

Does the "HR Manager" "role" correspond to a user attribute in Active Directory? If so, then yes, you can have Workflow look them up. You would have to use an Active Directory trustee provider in your Find User and configure it with a custom user property mapping to that user attribute. See the help file for more info, specifically step 4 under "To add a custom property to a trustee".

Excellent, thanks so much for this Miruna, I wasn't sure quite where to start with this but it sounds like just what we're after.  Much appreciated.
