Question

Public Accessing WebLink and Licenses Not Timing Out

asked on September 22, 2014

I created this question with the same title as a previous post because the suggestions with that post is not currently working for us.

Please reference this thread for the question/problem:

https://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/54336/Public-Accessing-WebLink-and-Licenses-Not-Timing-Out

We have added the MJ12bot to our webconfig file; however, it seems it is still appearing and locking up our pool of license for public users.  I was wondering if there was a permanent fix.

Also, would Laserfiche have a way to automate this so that when the word "BOT" is recognized, it would just drop the connection? Perhaps something that could recognize that weblink is hit with a bunch of requests from the same source - then automatically disconnect and ignore that particular source for a period of time?

If you are having an issue specifically with the MJ12bot, please review this page. They indicate that their bot should adhere to the robots.txt file so I would recommend trying that solution as well. They also provide email support if you find that their bot is still crawling your site despite configuring it to block this bot.

Thanks Alexander. We'll add it to the robots.txt file and see what happens.

I just wanted to update this thread and close it out. I ended up adding the information that Alexander suggested to robot.txt.  Unfortunately, I was not able to test this as our VAR had provided us with a different solution.

Our awesome VAR did a custom program that activates via task scheduler. It watches for any inactivity that exists in a certain amount of time and terminates them. This way the licensing can be freed up.  While this will solve our issue for now, I am disappointed that LF engineers did not come up with such an option in the last 9 versions of LF.

Son Le you may want to implement the following on your WebLink site as well:
