Yes. When a document is deleted and purged from the recycle bin, then the physical files in the volume will also be deleted. The Laserfiche Server uses a background thread to delete the physical files so the files may not be deleted immediately, but should be deleted after a few minutes.

Hi,

We are running LaserFiche 10.1.1, we deleted folder and purged it, and the volume show zero but physical files remain on disk although I waited for several hours.

Why LaserFiche didn't cleanup the physical files?

Depending on when the server last ran its periodic maintenance, it may be up to 24 hours until the documents are deleted from disk.

Yes, you are right.

Is there a way to make the server perform this activity manually? I'm in a situation where it would be great if I could force the server to start purging physical files immediately.

Edit: I got an answer in a different somewhat related thread - http://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/105869/After-Purging-the-Entry-Still-Remains-in-the-Volume#115586

Hi, Alex

How long would it take for the database to update once the contents of the recycle bin have been purged? We have a user (on version 9.2.1) reporting that even though the recycle bin has been purged the purged entries are still showing up in the database. This is causing an issue because one of their batch jobs is trying to get permissions for those deleted folders and can't find that information. I'm wondering if it is possible that the batch job is being run too soon after the recycle bin has been purged?

Thank you,

Rob

Hello everybody,

do you have any specific time delay for the deletion of the physical file from the disk?

I'm running out of space in the server and need to free space. I deleted from the Repository a lot of useless documents, but the available space on disk is not immediately reflected. How long it takes?

I need this info to plan the scanning of new files in the same drive.

Thanks and regards,

Hi Everybody,

Deleted file and purged from recycle bin but files are not getting deleted from the volumes . Volumes are setup on Network drives.

Please suggest.

When you purge the files from the Recycle Bin, the files don't get physically deleted from the server immediately.  I believe it usually happens overnight, depending on how your maintenance window is configured.

See this Answers post for additional info about maintenance windows:

Hi

In addition to the reply above, especially that it is a network share, ensure the laserfiche server has proper authority (that include delete) on the network share folder, if there is no issue with access then the purge will happen overnight.

Regards
