Question

unregistering a repository after a hardware failure?

asked on June 19, 2014

Hello,

I was building a VM demo machine and I had registered a repository and attempted to create a snapshot of the VM. During the snapshot process the system I was on had lost power. Now my VM has reverted back to a time prior to me adding the repository.

Is there another way to unregister the missing repository? My company's keys are maxed for demo use.

Can you tell us what error, if any, you're seeing? Repository registration has nothing to do with the activation key. If the VM snapshot is from before you've added the repository, then you should be able to just create a new one. If the snapshot is from before installing the Laserfiche Server, then you should be able to use the same activation key again since the hardware configuration would still be the same (so this would count as a reactivation, not a brand new activation).

From the message, it does not look like your snapshot is from before the repository was created. Regardless, you should be able to unregister the repository from the Administration Console. You don't have to log into that repository, you can cancel the login prompt if you see one, then right-click the repository name and select Unregister from the context.

Throughout the process I have had to move to a new VM since the old one seems to have some issues. The old VM was the VM that I had originally setup a new repository when the system messed up causing me to lose the repository in the list of repositories. I have made a whole new VM and I've migrated the Licence database. The problem comes from me not being able to right click on the repository on the old VM to unregister it.

Is there any other way to unregister repositories? I am not able to click on the old one and remove it.

The error I posted is from the new VM telling me that I have hit the limit of repositories my licence is allowed. which is what started this whole thing.

The issue may be that you're not using a valid license on that VM. Restart the Laserfiche Server service and check the application event log to see if it indicates that the server started correctly or if it indicates a licensing related issue.

If your license file is invalid, then you can re-activate your VAR Kit Laserfiche Server to get a new license file. Replace the old license with the new one and restart the Laserfiche Server service. Then confirm if you can modify your repositories.

*Edit*

If this is with your Rio VAR Kit system, then just remove the registered Laserfiche Server application instance and then re-register a new one. Generate a new license file there and replace the old license with the new license and restart the Laserfiche Server service.
