Question

Move 8.1.2 to a new Server

asked on June 12, 2014

I need to move LF 8.1.2 from a Windows 2008 Server to a Windows 2012 R2 server.

I've read that LF needs to be 8.3.2 to work with 2012 R2.

Is that correct?

If so, can someone please point to the correct procedure to upgrade 8.1.2 to something newer?

Thanks!

There are different approaches that can be taken depending on how much down time you can afford. In general though, you can first unregister your repository from your current system. Then uninstall the Laserfiche Server and that will deactivate the system. Now you can install and activate Laserfiche 9.1.1 on your new server. Once that's completed, register the repository and it will take care of the schema upgrade automatically.

Do all of the workstations/clients need to be upgraded as well, or can their software remain the same?

I'm trying to arrange a server replacement for a client and I'm not familiar with the inner workings of Laserfiche at all.  I apologize for the dumb questions....

The Client can be an older version than the Server if necessary, though we always recommend you update the Client when possible to ensure that you're getting all the features made available by the server.

For more information see the product compatibility list

The server is backwards compatible so you don't need to upgrade the Client workstations yet.
