Installing an Application Server out in the DMZ

asked on May 23, 2014

If a RIO client wants to install a Laserfiche Application Server out in their DMZ an then wants to use SSL for communication back through the Firewall to the SQL Server or to the License Manager server.  What do you think would be the best configuration for this kind of setup.  Also do they need to have Certificates on the Laserfiche server as well as the License manager server.

Thanks

This essentially is the same as trying to set up the different Laserfiche applications on different machines which is definitely possible. You would need to have valid certificates on both the Laserfiche and License Manager server along with SSL. Before we dive any deeper into this issue though I'd like to ask what's the use case for having the Laserfiche Server outside of your firewall? It doesn't sound like the best way to configure the Laserfiche system in my opinion.

I'd have to agree with what Alan said as well. It's very common to have setups where WebLink (or even Web Access) are placed in a DMZ for external access, but not the Laserfiche Server itself. This presentation goes over some various web deployment configurations, including in DMZs. It's a ppt, but it has pretty extensive notes to go along with it.

I asked the same question to the client and they have since went back and reviewed everything and it was determined that they are not going to put an Application Server out in the DMZ.  I believe this was some mis-communication in terminology and they were saying LF server when they were meaning Weblink and Forms Servers.  I appreciate all of the responses provided.
