Question

LFID

asked on May 8, 2014

Looking for a quick validation on a LFID question:

My assumption has been that LFIDs do not change, regardless of version, upgrades, etc.

IN other words, as long as I upgrade through the LF versions normally, my LFIDs will remain intact for documents through the upgrades.

Questions:

1) Is this a correct assumption ?

2) Are there any situations that would negate this  (i.e. if I did a fresh install of 9.x, and instead of upgrading the volume, I briefcase'd in the documents for some reason, would this change my LFIDs for each document in the system) ?

Do tell.  I am using LFID as the unique identifier for one of our integrations, and want to make sure we don't set ourselves up for a problem somewhere down the road.

Thanks,

In general, the entry ID (tocid) will not change as the system gets upgraded/migrated. There is an exception to this, which is described on this page. Basically it states that starting in Laserfiche 8, we introduced the Recycle Bin which has tocid 2 reserved for it. That means that when coming from a previous version of Laserfiche, i.e. 6 or 7, and then migrating to Laserfiche 8 or 9, the entry that had previously been tocid 2 will now get changed to use a new tocid. No other entries would get affected.

As for the second question regarding importing briefcases, those documents will be treated as new documents and will get new tocids.
