Question

Moving from Laserfiche Enterprise Server 8.1 to Avante Enterprise (15 Repositories)

asked on May 4, 2014

Hello,

We have a client on Laserfiche Enterprise Server 8.1 (Dongle), and they want to move to Avante or Rio, and they have around 10 Repositories, would you please send us your advice regarding this issue?

And have to apologize. I just realized that I steered you wrong. Avante comes out of the box with the ability for a single repository. With Rio, you can have up to 15 out of the box, but I don't think there's a hard limit.

The licensing cost to get Avante to have 10 repositories might be prohibitive. You might run that by your Laserfiche rep.

How big are the repositories, and how many users? Depending on the circumstances, I'd consider consolidating the repositories down to one, and saving some money.

With Avante, you must purchase additional repository licensing for each repository attached.  The base Avante license will only allow you to attach 1 repository, so to attach 15, you will have to purchase additional licensing to do so.

With Rio, you have no additional licensing to purchase in order to attach additional repositories and you get the added benefit of the option to use multiple LF servers at no additional licensing as well.

In my opinion, you can get a lot more benefit from investing into Rio then trying to press the limits of a single Avante system.

Without knowing more of your requirements, I can definitely say that with your current multi-repository environment, you'll need to have Rio. Avante only supports a single repository.

I can't tell if this is a licensing/pricing question or a how-to question. If it's the first, you should probably direct it to the regional manager. If it's the latter, see the white papers on the support site: Avante and Rio.

Thanks Devin for your reply but as you know in Laserfiche Enterprise version 7, you can add a maximum of 15 Repositories for one server.

So why I should move this client to Rio (multi-servers), which has one location without branches and only what he need extra Repositories not servers.
