Windows Roaming profiles - Snapshot Issue - (32 to 64-bit migration)

asked on April 7, 2014

Client is using windows roaming profiles so their users personal settings follow them from PC to PC. For one particular user, if he/she clicked LF Snapshot 8 it would show the print icon in the system tray for a moment and then disappear. No pop-up or error. They wouldn’t even get the box to choose the save location or the file name (we did check that it was supposed to be prompting).

The user recently got upgraded from a 32-bit OS to a 64-bit. This is when the problem first started occurring. What they found is in the registry in HKCU\Printers\DevModePerUser and HKCU\Printers\DevModes2 that Laserfiche Snapshot creates a couple REG_BINARY entries that contained the incorrect path to the snapshot executable. Once these entries were removed, the next time the user used snapshot it worked just as it should. However all their preferences/settings were reset to default.

Is there a way to reset that path without deleting the whole key? Client has several users that we will be moving from 32-bit to 64-bit in the coming months and would like a solution that isn’t as destructive.

According to Microsoft's knowledge base, sharing user profiles between x86 and x64 OSs is not supported: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2384951

Have you tried fixing the path rather than deleting the registry key?
