Question

Scanning won't store documents with required fields, even when the fields are all filled in.

asked on March 14, 2014

We have a client where upgrading to 9.1.0.4 from 8.3 turns out to have been a bad thing.  They have a template with required fields.  But often, and intermittently, scanning (Basic Scanning) won't send/store the documents, even when the fields are all filled in.  They delete the pages/close scanning, scan the same document and it works fine.  The output error reads, "Cannot store invalid document, Required fields cannot be blank."

Is anyone else having this problem?

Does the issue only occur in Basic Scanning? If the user switches to Standard Scanning, does the issue still occur?

A generic test was performed in house and the issue couldn't be recreated so there might be more to this than immediately obvious. Please open a support case so further troubleshooting can be performed.

Hi John -

That would definitely cause this behavior as well, so it is an excellent suggestion.  However in this case, the user has access to all fields.  Also, the problem occurs occasionally - if they rescan the same document and use the same index values, it will usually go through the second time without any problem.  I need to add that this began when we upgraded from 8.3 to 9.1 about two weeks ago, so there seems to be some relationship between the two events.  The exact relation is TBD.

Update -

I am getting this issue on my laptop also using 9.1.1.  It tries to send the document, throws the error and clears out all of the field values I entered.  You can fill in the fields all you want, and it will not send the document.  I'll open a support case, Alex.

Was there any resolution to this? We have the same issue intermitted basis.

Could there be a required field on the template that this particular user cannot see? Just a stab in the dark here......
