Workflow Version 9 Installation and Upgrades

I'm planning an upgrade and I want to know what the impact could be on Workflow development in our test system.

Is it possible and reliable to use Workflow Designer 8.3.x with Workflow Server 9.1.1?

As long as you're not trying to open any workflows using the new functionality, it should be fine.
