Question

Deactivating LF license

asked on February 13, 2014 Show version history

Does LF have a plan to create a deactivation tool (similar to activation tool) to replace the current DOS deactivation process?

Also, as Virtual Machines or Hard-drives increasingly fail, customers do not always retain original hardware fingerprint or host ID.

Would it be possible for LF to display this information (transfer from Activation server), along with the customer activation key on the customer's private license section of the LF support site? (speeding up the deactivation process)?

Andy, this is actually a policy question, not a technical one. So it's probably better if you bring it up with your regional manager.

That would be a great thing for the support site to have, but one thing we have started doing in the past few years as a VAR is include that information in our Project Intellectual Report we give the customer when we are closing a project. This also becomes a handy document we keep for ourselves so that down the road we have it as a reference if the customer doesn't have it anymore.

Interesting, if technically feasible, both creating a deactivation utility and posting the information would require a policy review before implementing.  I will contact the regional manager. thks.
