Snapshot install error with windows 7 x64 only

asked on February 6, 2014

Getting this error message (attached) when installing the client with Snapshot. Without Snapshot, the client installs fine. I ran into this some time ago when I upgraded this client from 8.1 to 9 late last year, and the old resolution was to uninstall their AV, turn off UAC, after rebooting a few times, and that would fix it, however it is not this time. This is a freshly installed Windows 7 x64 machine, and for whatever reason it is not working. At a bit of a loss at the moment.

Is there any possible fix in 9.1 for this?

Snapshot 9.1 does use a newer version of the black ice printer driver then Snapshot 9.0, so it's certainly plausible that it could resolve the issue and worth giving a try. This installation error isn't s listed in our bug log though, so I can't say for certain, since a failure installing Snapshot 9.0 on Windows 7 x64 in our testing would have showed up there.

The error you are seeing basically means 'something went wrong during the part where we hand off the installation to the black ice driver installation components to set up their part', so it's really hard to say what specifically it isn't liking. Upgrade operations sometimes cause this due to timing with an old driver not being fully uninstalled yet, but if this is a clean machine that's presumably not relevant.

If you check the App Log in Event Viewer, does it have any additional details on the error message?

Mixie Zultys Fax Driver uses the black ice driver as well, and that seems to be the problem. LF 8.1 doesn't have this problem. We're rolling back this particular client install for now until we find a solution.

We found that if you delete the old profile from the registry it would fix it. let me know if you want more details.

You can try these steps.  I had to completely remove all LFSS#### drivers and registry keys.  Once I completed that I was able to install the New 9.1.1 Snapshot drivers.
