WebLink Licensing Question

asked on January 22, 2014

We had an inquiry from a vendor today about hosting options for WebLink.  They were with many Cities in our area and we support all of them for Laserfiche.  Here was the question:

Can one server host multiple WebLinks?  Let's say that five Cities bought the 10 user public portal.  What they want to do is install WebLink for those five clients on just one server.  I know you can install WebLink and configure different dbids and different virtual directories but I am not sure how the licenses would work.  If each City got their own each would have 10 connections.  We would not want them to all share 10 connections.  And when you install WebLink you point to a license to get the client/users so I am thinking this is not possible.  Am I correct in assuming that each would have to have their own Server for WebLink?  Basically they are trying not to have to manage five different servers for five different clients that have the same thing.  I believe I know the answer but just thought I'd check.  Sorry if this is confusing, please let me know if I need to clarify better.

Thanks!

A further bit of information here. The public portal licensing is on the Laserfiche Server itself, not on WebLink servers. So, you can have multiple WebLink instances all pointing to the same Laserfiche Server. So they could each have their own WebLink site, but from a licensing standpoint it would all go into the one pool on the Server as has been noted above.

A Public Portal license is associated with one server, so you would not be able to set up separate licenses for each city on the same server. You could either purchase a Public Portal license for 50 concurrent users, and have the cities share connections, or give each city their own license for 10 connections on separate servers.

We're looking into a similar hosting issue.

Would there be a way to limit the number of connections per city, or would one city be able to tie up all 50 concurrent connections?

It is not possible to specify separate user pools in a single public portal instance.

Weblink can host multiple repositories but only one server.

If all 5 cities were hosted off of one Laserfiche server (with a repository for each city) then you could possibly do this.
