Windows Updates should not affect the hardware fingerprint, which is generated based on the hardware in the system. Changing the network card, for instance, will change the hardware fingerprint, but updating Windows will not.

Hi Bill,

If you're asking will the fingerprint change once the VM (VMWare) is moved? Yes it will.

Moving a LF server in a Rio environment will not affect the activation.

Zach,

Talking about HD fingerprint, is there a way to address the HD fingerprint change on a LF server?

Scenario:

LF server is running on a cloud but the hosting of cloud server will randomly move for "maintenance" reasons hence changing the HD fingerprint.

What are your suggestions on this scenario?

On a Rio system once the host fingerprint on the LFS changes it will not reflect the fingerprint on the registered applications instance for that particular computer when it was initially set up from the License Manager.

You will need to manually register a new application instance each time the fingerprint changes on the server.

Currently this process cannot be automated but we would like the functionality in future for LM to dynamically change the IDs.

Hi Ranzu -

Is this true when the server is moved dynamically via VMWare?  My understanding was that if the move were done in that environment, the activation key would still work.

Hi BIll,

Yes, if the VMs are moved it will change the host fingerprint and this will not effect the your activation.
