LF11 to LF12 - most efficient data migration method

asked on August 12

A new on premise LF12 environment has been implemented on new set of servers, including a new SQL Server version running on one of the new virtual servers.   LF11 contains a repository, forms, and workflows.

The briefcase export/import had been run for a few repository folders from on premise LF11 to on premise LF12.  It ran for four days.  There are terabytes of production data that need to be copied to the LF12 environment.

Currently, both LF11 and LF12 are functioning, with LF12 containing only the data imported using the briefcase method.  LF11 will be production until LF12 has been successfully tested.

What is the most efficient method to copy all data from LF11 to LF12 while keeping both environments functional?

You can not share the databases between 2 versions but you can create a copy of the database and attach it to your LF12 environment creating an effective new copy of the respository. To move or copy the data just transfer it directly form the disk. If the drive letter is different you often need to script the drive letter change from the dob.vol table as the interface requires too many clicks and chokes up when you try to do so at any reasonable pace.

The repository can remain online and fully operational while the data is transferring. It will not cause any conflicts to transfer the data during production, only an inability to view or download the document image before it is done transferring.

Thank you, Chad.  Beyond copying the repository folder, does this mean we can simply restore the LF11 SQL database to the new LF12 SQL server?

Sure can, the installer does not update the database, the service itself does. This means when the LF12 service detects an LF11 database it updates it to LF12. This is true for all the LF services.
