Question

Pass URL from Workflow to Forms

asked on July 10

I am trying to pass a url that was generated in a workflow into a form, then make that url a clickable hyperlink within the form. Here is the url I created in the workflow and am passing to the form as a variable.

This url does work correctly, as it is used in other workflows of mine that pass it into an email in those other workflows. I then pass it into the form via an Invoke Business Process Function.

The form does properly receive the variable. However when attempting to make it into a hyperlink, it just shows the link as plain text regardless of the formatting. I have it as a hyperlink with the variable inserted as the url.

(Please ignore the styling and naming as the form itself is a work in progress)

When the forms task arrives in the inbox it appears like so.

So it does pass the created url. And if I copy/paste the url it navigates there without issue. I just cant figure out how to get it to become a clickable hyperlink on the form when it is presented to the user.

It looks like people are finding you have to use javascript. See this post.

Is the field you're writing the URL to a HTML field?

Yes it is a custom HTML field

Try having workflow set a single line with the value, then put the variable for the single line into the HTML tab of the HTML field

IE: <a href="Single_Line">Click Here</a>

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by that. Do you mean set a separate variable in the workflow using the url generated from the workflow?

I was thinking by having workflow populate a Custom HTML it is putting the url in the text tab rather then the HTML tab. To ensure it is in the HTML tab instead have workflow put the url in a single line and reference that single line from the HTML tab of the Custom HTML object.

Unfortunately it does the same thing. It just shows the the variable in plain text and not as a clickable hyperlink.

I have to be honest, thats a little above my knowledge. I am not sure what info from my form to plug in where in the javascript to make it function.

It would be a nice feature to have a user friendly checkbox to make a single line into a hyperlink. Until that is added though you might have to learn how to use class names under advanced, you can copy their code snip-its and just update it with your class names. Or maybe have your VAR help you with this one.

Thank you for the help. I will see what I can do with it.

You could try building the entire HTML string in Workflow, and then passing that in as the value to a rich text field. That's how I have some forms set up that pass a clickable URL from a SQL table back into a form through lookups. The field value of the rich text field is set to something like this:

<a href="URL" target="_blank">Link Text</a>

And then I have some CSS to hide the toolbar and other parts of the rich text field:

.note-toolbar {display: none;}
.note-statusbar {display: none;}
.note-editable {min-height: 10px !important; background-color: white !important; padding: 0px !important; font-size: medium !important;}
.note-editor {background-color: white !important; border: none !important;}

I haven't tried this with Workflow, but might be worth a shot if you want to avoid Javascript.
