Question

Question

migrate server

asked on November 7

We have a physical server with two VHD hosting Laserfiche Applications and SQL Database. We want to move this VHD from the Original Physical Server to the new physical server. I want to find out if there would be a need for License Deactivation/Activation, and how to go about it if we would have to deactivate the license and activate it again

If you are using hardware fingerprint licensing, I would recommend switching to domain locked licensing before you make the switch.

Assuming your licenses are hardware fingerprint bound (vs domain locked license) then you would need to deactivate each product license (Laserfiche Server, Forms, LFDS) and reactivate on the new server using the new hardware fingerprint. Deactivation is via the command line whilst activation can be using the ActivationToolNet4.exe utility, which has a graphical interface. I tried deactivating using the command line but it didnt deactivate. I followed the prompt from the support site https://support.laserfiche.com/kb/1012301/deactivating-laserfiche-products?_gl=1*1l3p9cl*_gcl_au*OTAwMDI2ODcwLjE3NjIzNDY0ODUuMTUyNDI3NTUzOS4xNzYyNTI1MzY5LjE3NjI1MjUzNzA.

The deactivation tool should only be used for products that directly require their own activation key.

If you are using Directory Server in your system, then all other products should be deactivated through the Directory Server UI.

The primary license using for the licensing site in Directory Server is the only one where the deactivation tool would be used/would work.
