Feature Request - Laserfiche 12 Client Installer

asked on October 10 Show version history

Hi All,

Whilst the new LF12 installer is really good, could it be possible to have a client side version that doesn't require an installation code? This would have only the client components (e.g. desktop client, office integration, snapshot, OCR etc.)

Perhaps by default you only get the client bits, then you put in an installation key and it unlocks the server side elements?

I'm struggling to see the logic of having the client components behind a key, when in LF11 you could install these freely. This would really help some of the smaller customers with upgrades. Enterprise customers can obviously package the MSI's.

Please can this be considered? What are other peoples thoughts on this?

Cheers!

Chris

To avoid end users needed to look up the installer code, you can deploy the installer code to the registry keys for the machine where you need to install. We'll be updating our documentation to include this information.

They're under  HKLM\SOFTWARE\Laserfiche\DistributionPortal (checked first) or  HKCU\SOFTWARE\Laserfiche\DistributionPortal

  • userkey: The installation code for connecting to Laserfiche Support Site
  • LM_UseLFDS: Which activation method to use, 1: use LFDS, 2: use activation key, 3: without activation
  • LM_LicenseServer: The LFDS Server used for product activation, used when LM_UseLFDS = 1 (formatting: mymachine.example.com)
  • LM_LicenseDatabase: The LFDS Licensing Site used for product activation, used when LM_UseLFDS = 1

The upcoming release also makes it easier to install from local/downloaded packages.

The installer code is a replacement for Support Site login, so we can't make it completely ungated, but we are looking into specific handling for the supplementary client applications such as Scanning and Office Plugin to show a limited list.
